Help the Playa del Carmen Pet Shelter for free!

Playa del Carmen, Mexico is one of my favorite places in the entire world. It is where my beach pictures were taken earlier this year. Mexico has a huge stray dog and cat problem, and a few wonderful people are trying to do something about it in Playa del Carmen. The Peanut Pet Shelter has recently opened and is working very hard to care for and re-home these animals, most of whom have been very sick and abused. I know we all can't adopt a street dog from Mexico, but we can all click on the link below and nominate the Peanut Pet Shelter to receive some of the $2.5 million in funds that American Express is providing for their Members Project. Here are the details from my friend Susie, who nominated the shelter.

I'd like to tell you about a project I submitted to Members Project. It's called "Peanut Pet Shelter" and it's in Playa del Carmen, QR, Mexico. With your support it could get funding from American Express. To nominate this project for potential funding, please go to http://www.membersproject.com/project/view/LHHZO5

Members Project is an exciting initiative that brings people together to make a difference in the world. It's simple. People go online to share ideas for projects — and ultimately vote on which projects will share $2.5 million in funding from American Express.

In 2007, Members Project provided clean drinking water to children all across Africa. What will Members Project do this year? The decision is yours. Please nominate my project.

The only downside to this is that you have to register as a guest if you're not already an AmEx member. I know people don't like putting their email addresses out there randomly, but I'm pretty sure AmEx won't be spamming you. I guess it's how they know that nominations are legitimate.
But... if we get gazillions of nominations, the shelter could be the recipient of one of these awards. It may not be as big as getting clean drinking water to the children of Africa, but it's still pretty important and this will give us the opportunity to make it even MORE visible to more people all over the world.

Please click on the link above, sign up, and vote for the puppies and kitties! And, after you've done that, SEND THE LINK TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW! Ask everyone to vote for the Shelter! We've only got 'til September 1st!!!

You can learn more about the shelter here: http://www.playadelcarmenpets.com/

Happy clicking!

RYT-200

It's been a year-long journey, but I have finally completed my Registered Yoga Teacher 200-hour certification today. I finished up with my Pre and Post-Natal speciality training on Friday and Anatomy and Alignment training Saturday and Sunday.

My trainer for the weekend was the absolutely fantastic Barbara Nobles. This was my first opportunity to train with her and I am so honored to have been able to finish up this leg of my journey with such a wonderful woman. Barbara is from Jackson, MS, and you can check out her website here: http://www.body-benefits.com/.

Thanks so much to Skila for starting me on this journey and pushing me along the way, to Jackie for hanging in there with me during every step as well as being my anatomy partner all weekend, and all my new-found YogaFit friends.

Lunchtime classes in September!

I am so pleased to be given the opportunity to offer lunchtime yoga classes during the month of September at Veria Wellness Center in Plano. The official Veria September schedule hasn't been released, but we are planning for Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm. This will be a Gentle Vinyasa Flow yoga class.

Veria is a terrific little hidden gem of a spa located at Park and Preston. You can see the location at their website here: http://www.veria.com. Their yoga room is like being in a little cocoon, and it's a wonderful environment to practice in. The classes will be small and intimate. This is the perfect opportunity and location for those who want the consistency of a regular practice, and those who don't like the large class environment.

If you'd like a little lunchtime yoga, please join us in September. I will update my online schedule once the Veria class schedule is released, probably next week. If there is enough participation in the classes during September, we will be able to continue to offer them into the fall.

What do we see in Hurricane Harbor?

Saturday was Megan's birthday party. She chose Hurricane Harbor for her party with just a few of her closest friends. I clearly haven't been to Hurricane Harbor in a loooonnnggggg time, or I would have been smart and said "No!". But I agreed, so here we are, after the mile long line to park and then the mile long walk into the park. The pavement hadn't quite heated up to "fry your feet in two seconds flat" temperature, so we aren't too miserable here. :)

When you pay for parking, they are kind enough to give you coupons for Papa John's, who charge $25 for a large cheese pizza once inside. Oh, but they don't tell you that the coupons they give you are not accepted at the Papa John's inside the park. No kidding. $25 for a large icky cheese pizza.
The day got hotter and the lines got longer. We waited over an hour in line for any ride, and the lazy river was more like a lazy mass of bodies. It was crazy. I hit a bump on one ride, smacked my tailbone and threw my head back, whiplash style. So I'm suffering tremendously at the moment and can hardly move my neck. What a great time for my chiropracter to get married and go to Greece for two weeks, huh? I'm pretty sure I will live until he gets back. :) And on that tangent, congratulations Stacy and Dean. I'm so happy for you and know you will have many wonderful years together!
Even though the adults were disenchanted at Hurricane Harbor, the girls had fun, which was the whole point. And I was reminded why I don't really like Hurricane Harbor.
I'm sure I'll forget again in a few years before the next child asks for the same thing. :)

Megan's 14th Birthday!

Today is Megan's 14th birthday. I'm not quite sure how she got so old so quickly! Here is Megan on our recent family vacation in California.

And here is one of my very favorite videos of Megan as a very little girl. Maybe she hasn't changed so much after all. :)
This weekend was our CrossFit Gymnastics Certification and we are sore and tired. We had a great time and learned a ton of new gymnastics skills! My shoulder made it through the weekend, but I had to sit out of most of today's exercises. I just wasn't stable enough on the rings, and was worried about hurting it again.
Jeff Tucker and the folks at GSX Athletics (http://www.gsxathletics.com/) are just fantastic. They are very knowledgeable and excellent trainers. I hope to work with them more in the future. If you are ever in Fort Worth, it's worth paying them a visit. You'll get a great workout and learn a lot!
Eventually, I'll get around to writing about my Level 5 YogaFit training in Palm Springs, which was awesome...
